The Farewell Bike Ride

David Griffin on Eucalyptus LoopThe sun begins to break through the clouds as you see David Griffin riding along Eucalyptus Loop trail. This is another one of the premier single track trails at Wilder Ranch State Park.

Rick Oswald swooping thru Eucalyptus Loop It was so much fun, that we rode this section over again. Here is Rick Oswald swooping through this dip. Although this picture didn't capture it, Rick was expert in catching air as he sailed over the emerging tree roots. Eucalyptus Loop trail then led us to a junction where we joined Enchanted Loop. Now this is when the ride gets WILD! Enchanted Loop begins descending a steep narrow trail with loose dirt and large tree roots and rocks which create challenging drop offs.

VooDoo AirWOW! Is it a bird, is it a plane, no .... it's Matthew Griffin flying through the air on his VooDoo. The descent down Enchanted Loop culminates at this most excellent log jump.

Matthew Griffin jumping logHere he is preparing to launch that bike again.

Rick Burrows sneaking out of the woodsBut wait, who's this sneaking through the woods like he crawled out of a pumpkin patch? Rick Burrows takes his turn to jump the log which is barely visible in the foreground.

Rick Oswald jumping logThen it's the Tazmon's turn to catch some air. Sometimes the air was so great he jumped out of the frame of the camera. But these photos are available for viewing here.

More big air

Biggest air of all

Zane Gray CutoffThen it was up to the Eucalyptus Grove for lunch. After lunch we ventured into Gray Whale Ranch and back down through Old Cabin and Eucalyptus Loop again. Returning via Wilder Ridge we rode down Zane Gray cutoff. Here we paused while Matthew Griffin doctored a scrape he incurred during a spill while wrestling his bike over some rocks.

Chuck Giza dreaming about bike ridingAt the close of the day, Chuck Giza was found in a reclined position trying to rest his tired muscles.
